Inspiration from the Greats

Just came across this site with a lot of interviews with some great jazz musicians; we can always use a little more inspiration...

Inspiration from the Greats

Useful for fast 3/4 jazz tunes with a 'one' feel...

a more standard beat for Night in Tunisia  - transcribed by drummer Phil Bennet

''Night in Tunisia'' is based round a half-clave pattern. Instead of playing a 3-2 clave you just play the 3 part over and over."

Thanks Phil!

Stanton Moore Demonstrates How to Incorporate the LP Tambourine into the Drum Set

Great rhythms I've been working on today - Great drummer!

This is the beat Stanton plays at 1:56 on the tom and cowbell
*the accents outline the 3-2 clave...
**the 2nd R accent probably shouldn't be accented if you are a clave purist; but it sounds good and the main beats are covered...

Welcome to Upbeat & Offbeat!

Upbeat & Offbeat is a collection of resources of drumming, percussion, grooves & rhythm.

There isn't any order to this stuff and it's not an instructional blog  by any means - it's just a way for me to keep my favorite drumming resources in one place.

If anything here is useful to you then help yourself!

I have eclectic tastes hence Offbeat... & I try to stay positive in this crazy world hence Upbeat!

...and so can you be too!

Capiche?

:)

Seeya!
